Leon the Lion
For more than 20 years, Leon (Lion Dan Duncan) has been the smiling face of the Alexandria Lincolnia Lions Club. While no one has been able to get Leon to speak, his hugs and his exceeding good looks have spread the goodnews of Lionism throughout Northern Virginia. Leon is always ready to pose for a photograph. His den may be with the Alexandria Lincolnia Lions Club, but he is at home wherever Lions are working to help others. If you would like to have Leon at your next Club event, please contact the Alexadria Lincolnia Club.
Stamps For The Wounded
The Alexandria Lincolnia Lions Club supports "Stamps For the Wounded" which was established in 1942. This organization collects used postage stamps which are used by bedridden patients, long-treatment patients, and convalescent patients to make artwork.
PDG Lion Wendell Keyes has spearheaded this project and to date the Club has cumulatively provided 1,435 used stamps (620 donated on 10 Jan 2019). More information can be found at: http://www.angelfire.com/va2/ayrhill/SFTW.htm
Plastic Pill Bottle Collection Project
By the efforts of Lion Lisa Romano, the Alexandria Lincolnia Lions Club has been collecting, cleaning, and donating plastic pill bottles to Matthew 25: Ministries since March 2017. AS of November 2018, our club has mailed out six large boxes of empty plastic pill bottles. Matthew 25: Ministries accepts donations of empty plastic pill bottles for inclusion in shipments of medical supplies and for shredding and recycling. Their pill bottle program fulfills the dual needs of improving medical care in developing countries and caring for our environment. Pill bottles that are not appropriate to include with shipments are recycled for cash that goes toward Matthew 25: Ministries programs. More information about this program can be found at: http://m25m.org/pillbottles/
