WPCC supports the parents and carers of children with disabilities and in July 2013 they received £250 from our Grant Scheme to fund a Christmad Party. The event took place on 15th December and 58 children and their families had a fantastic time enjoying food, a bouncy castle and art and crafts as well as the all-important visit from Father Christmas.

Lions Pack Shoe Boxes

Worcester Lions Club met with residents of YMCA for our 4th annual Shoe Box event.  We all spent a very lively and enjoyable evening filling our brightly covered shoe boxes with an assortment of goodies.  Each child will receive  toiletries, colouring book and crayons, a ball, soft toy, novelty drinking bottle, warm hat scarf or gloves, sweets and either a skipping rope or a jigsaw plus an extra small toy as well as a personal greetings card from the person who filled the box.  As a result of our efforts 75 boxes will soon be transported by Samaritans Purse to Belarus to delight a child this festive season.

We are very grateful to the YMCA who join us each year, provide the venue and much needed manpower to get the boxes ready for transporting and who get so much pleasure in being involved in this event.

  • Monthly Bingo - 2 sheltered homes
  • Cinderella at the Swan Theatre, people that wouldn't normally have got to see a pantomime did!
On Tuesday 30th November 2010 a large number of people braved the cold and snowy weather to watch a performance of Cinderella at Worcester's Swan Theatre.
For the second year running  the theatre director has allowed Worcester Lions to take 200 disadvantaged adults and children to watch their technical dress rehearsal. 2010's audience comprised groups of elderly, disabled, young carers and women and children from Women's Aid as well as a group from the YMCA.
Despite several empty seats due to the inclement weather there was a great deal of audience participation in the brilliantly written and performed show, with several excited voices shouting 'he's behind you' at appropriate moments and 4 brave children who delighted everyone by getting on stage to sing a verse of  'the wheels on the bus'.
We are very grateful to our friends at The Swan for allowing us to organise this event and to the cast who came into the foyer and mingled and posed for photographs with delighted children.  We very much hope they will allow us to attend again next year.
Thanks also to Droitwich and Malvern Lion Clubs who arranged groups of local people to attend and also helped on the day.
  • Young Carers

I just wanted to thank you again for arranging the tickets for us last night.  All the children thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

Sue and I have taken the Young Carers to various Panto’s over the last few years, but the show last night was by far the best we have seen.
Please pass our thanks and congratulations on to all the cast and production team.
Many thanks

Groups that wouldn't normally have got to see a Pantomime - DID, thanks to the Swan Theatre and Worcester Lions

  •  The Stroke Association

I just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your help at the Reindeer Run on Sunday – you were an absolutely brilliant Father Christmas, and really added festive atmosphere to the event. I’m guessing you have done it before, as all the children (and adults!) loved you. Please find attached a couple of photos that I took on the day, and you are also featured on the Worcester news video clip if you want to have a look at their website.

I am sure you will be pleased to know that we had 47 people take part in the end, and have raised well over £1,000 with more sponsorship to come in, so not bad for year 1! Hopefully it is an event we can build on year on year….
I look forward to being in touch again and hopefully working more closely with the Worcester Lions in the near future.
Thanks again for all your support, especially at such short notice.
Kind regards,
~ Sophie
