DAY OUT WITH OVERSEAS YOUTH
LIONS CLUB OF WANSTEAD & WOODFORD organised a day out for the Overseas Youths on 27th July 2016 as part of the Youth Exchange programme for District 105A. All in all it was a wonderful day out for these youngsters as they have not experienced a similar trip over the River Thames. A trip in the cable capsule and having a lunch at the o2 arena was well appreciated by all including Lions from Fairlop Club.
The following day a Farewell party was organised by the District Officer Lion Raza Ismail which was attended by DG Lion Brinder and his wife together with other senior figures from the district 105A Lions Club of Wanstead and Woodford was represented at this party by Lion President Harbinder Manku, his wife Kamaljit and Club Treasurer Lion Satwinder.
"Lion Harbinder commented that this is a wonderful way of involving with the community and helping the youngsters."
TREES TO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT
Lions Club of Wanstead and Woodford sponsored the planting of 15 trees at Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust’s Longridge Wood site as their contribution to help the environment.
IPP Harvinder Virdee and Lion Narinder Mann visited the Yorkshire Dales on the 16th of June Open Day, where new trees were being planted, as seen in the background of this photo.
The Multi District 105 Young Ambassador Competition Finals for 2015
The Shipshape Award which gives a Young Ambassador that the Judges feel would benefit from a Leadership Training course, the opportunity to attend such a course on a Tall Ship. This is offered by the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
The Judges unanimously selected James Lingfield from 105A to receive this award. James, 15 years of age, is sponsored by Lions Club of Wanstead and Woodford, has Muscular Dystrophy and uses an electric wheelchair.
James is an amazingly mature young man. He is involved with Chigwell Riding Trust for Special Needs, assists his local physiotherapist with talking to other teenagers about how he copes with Muscular Dystrophy, and is a Whizzkidz Ambassador, West Essex Sports Leader, voted Epping Forest Young Citizen of the Year 2014.
James is seen here in the picture receiving a cheque of £ 500 towards his bursary and a further £ 100 from Lions Club of Wanstead and Woodford towards a charity of his own choice. The cheques were presented by Lion President Harvinder and also seen in the picture is James’s mother who was an inspirational to the whole project.
LC Wanstead and Wooford members visited Eye Camp in India in Nov 2015
Dr Jacob from Ruby Nelson Hospital showed the members the treatment required on the patients. Dr. Jacob performed live eye operation using the Anaesthetic machine donated by Lions Club of Wanstead and Woodford. Further a slit lamp was donated by the club to Ruby Nelson Hospital. Lion Harvinder inaugurated the scanner used for Knee replacement. A very proud moment for the club . It nice to see club involved in International projects and helping those unfortunate people who are unable to support themselves.
