Lions Clubs International was founded by Melvin Jones on 7 June 1917 in Chicago.  His vision was to create an international organisation inspired by the philosophy of unselfish service, helping, assisting and improving the lives of those in need.

Whilst being part of a large international organisation each club is actually very individual.  We meet once a month for a business meeting.  There is a very short formal part at the start of the meeting where we remind ourselves of the ethics and objectives of Lions Clubs International.  After that it is very mush up to the members how the meeting develops.  As a member of Lions International we follow their motto of 'We Serve'.  This could be by doing something practical to help the needy, raising money by a street collection or by driving a mini bus.  Members decide which Charities they will support, and one of the great things about the organisation is that every penny we raise goes to good causes.

The Club have suspended their Quiz Nights till 2019.  Members are organising the District Convention which is taking place in the Golden Lion, Northallerton between the 16th and 18th November 2019.  Guests will be attending from all around the District and from other Districts.  We are expecting about 180 Lions, partners and friends to attend the Business Sessions on Saturday.   A number of inspirational speakers are lined up, as well as a fun host night and the DG Banquet and Ball on the Saturday night.

We have been contacted about a couple of service requests for next year including marshalling a run taking pklace on the moors above Osmotherley in April.

We sole refreshments at the Northallerton Park Run on Saturday 20 October 2018. We made £73 and we were inspired by the event. An event that is open to anyone of any ability to take part and is fully inclusive. This fits the Lions Objectives. Here is hoping we can become involved again.

And if not enough, we are starting to organise the 50th Anniversary celebration of the club, with a Charter Dinner on the 6th April 2019.

Next fundraising events:

Preparations are underway for the Santa Sleigh Run from the 15th to 22nd December, with a final collection outside Tesco on the 23rd.  Routes will be announced shortly

We will be in the Town Hall with a Table of Bric a Brac on Wednesday 31st October 2018.

We will be in Northallerton Town with a fundraising stall on Santa Sunday 2 December 2018 - please come and see us

How MedicAlert emblems work

MedicAlert provides vital details in an emergency... because every moment matters. We support members with a wide range of medical conditions and allergies, which we help them to describe on a custom made emblem. MedicAlert also keeps secure, detailed medical records for our members which can be updated at any time. This information can be accessed in an emergency, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from anywhere in the world, using our emergency telephone number and we are able to converse in over 100 languages.

MedicAlert emblems not only give you peace of mind, but also a sense of independence knowing that your conditions or wishes will be known in an emergency.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
