June 5, 2017: Thank you to the Columbian for covering our vision screening work in the community! Our club is looking forward to bringing this important service to schools and events throughout the year: New device helps group check more eyes."

The Vision Screening results are in!! Last year we screened  1,934 people ages 6 months to senior citizens, doubling our 2015 efforts.Nearly 19% were advised to seek further professional examinations. Of the nearly 2,000 people, over 850 were 3-5 year old Head Start kids. We referred nearly 13% of those for further exams. Anecdotally, we were told by Head Start teachers that every child we referred in 2015 is now wearing corrective glasses. We are proud of this effort.

The Salmon Creek Lions Club has long been a committed financial supporter of and an active participant in the work of the Lions Sight Foundation of Clark County, the Lions Hearing and Speach Conservation Committee of Clark County. Salmon Creek Lions helps facilitate the collection and re-use of thousands of used eyeglasses each year.

Our mission:
To serve the humanitarian needs of our local and worldwide communities through voluntary service.
Priorities of the Salmon Creek Lions Club and Foundation are to assist persons who are blind or visually-impaired, as well as those challenged by hearing loss. Locally, our efforts primarily have been directed to funding the Lions’ Foundations for Sight and for Hearing which, in turn, subsidize examinations, eye glasses, hearing aids and surgical procedures.

In 2015 we began an outreach program to test people of all ages for vision difficulties. Our screening program uses portable state of the art test equipment that is able to measure the need for further testing by trained professionals. When a person requires further examination, but does not have insurance coverage, we provide an application form to enable them to seek financial aid from the Lions Sight Foundation of Clark County.

Current Organizational Needs: We have purchased and are using Vision Screening equipment to screen children and adults to determine the need for further professional examination. We seek funding to replenish our Foundation's account to continue contributions to other organizations, and to  purchase at least one one additional vision-screening unit, with necessary accessories. The approximate replenishment and additional investment is $14,000..

Our affiliate, Salmon Creek Lions Foundation, is a 501(c)3 organization. Please help us serve others with your tax deductible contribution.
