Plymouth Tamar Lions Club

Welcome to our website.

Our club is part of an international organisation called Lions Clubs International which was formed in June 1917 in Chicago, USA.  It is the largest voluntary service organisation in the world.

The club is located in the city of Plymouth, on the banks of the River Tamar and on the Devon/Cornwall border.

Plymouth is home to the Mayflower Steps, where the Pilgrim Fathers embarked for their voyage to the New World in 1620, Plymouth Hoe, where Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls when the Spanish Armada was spotted, and has a rich military history.

Whilst Plymouth is a large and vibrant city it also has its share of deprived and disadvantaged people and these are the people that our club aims to help and support in various ways.

Hunger is a key concern for our club and we work closely with Plymouth Foodbank throughout the year, but most especially at Christmas when we provide hampers to a number families who find themselves in crisis.

In addition we provide ongoing support to Shekinah’s homeless shelter, providing clothes and sleeping bags to those in unfortunate circumstances.

As a service organisation our work is not limited to making donations – we are much more hands-on and believe in helping others to help themselves.  With this in mind, we hold Race Nights and Bingo nights for organisations who wish to raise their own funds.  We have had great fun supporting the multi-medal-winning Plymouth & District Special Olympics Team in this way!

If you believe we may be able to help a local organisation close to your heart, or even be interested in becoming a member, please get in touch (details on our contacts page).

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
