Fourth Saturday in February    St. Marks United Church of Christ Health Fair

NA Lions will provide vision screenings for children 6 and under using their Kid Sight scanner. Several local optometrists will be conducting vision analysis. When indicated, glasses will be given to the clients before they leave.  The glasses are donated by the New Albany Lions Club.  If the correct prescription is not available on site, then St. Marks’s will provide free glasses for the client.  Most clients leave with a pair of glasses.

Early December     Fruit Baskets for the Visually Impaired

NA Lions assemble and distribute fruit baskets to residents in the Jeffersonville/ Clarksville/ New Albany area that have been identified by local support agencies.  These baskets are delivered directly to the recipient by Lions club members. This is an annual event. Number of recipients varies according to the local referrals given to the club.

November       Hope Southern Indiana Veterans Luncheon

NA Lions will provide vision screenings, reading glasses, and an application for referral as needed to honor these veterans for their service to our country. 

November        Clark-Floyd Stand Down for Vets

NA Lions in partnership with several service agencies in Clark and Floyd counties provided vision screenings and glasses for veterans and their families.

SOME PAST SERVICE EVENTS

September 9, 2017      Northside Christian Serve Day

NA Lions, church members, and other trained volunteers worked with optometrist Dr. Mike Dankovich to provide vision screenings, glasses, and sunglasses to the clients.  All of the glasses distributed had been donated to the church or to the NA Lions by the community.  NA Lions clean, neutralize, sort, and box the donations for distribution at the vision screenings. This event was held at the Mid-Town campus at the corner of 15th and Oak St. in New Albany.

Back to School Pre-School Vision Screenings   Head Start  Fall, 2017

NA  Lions are on-call to Floyd County Head Start to screen the vision of pre-school children as needed. With the purchase of our own “KidSight Screener” we are able to serve more community agencies than before. NA Lions also work with Lion Sam Hopper of Georgetown when he needs assistance to do these screenings as well.

July 19, 2017           Vision Screening at New Albany Housing Authority

NA Lions were recruited by the New Albany Housing Authority to provide vision screening, glasses, sunglasses, and cases for their “Back–to–School Bash”.  Dr. Ron Nolan was the optometrist. Ten lions, three prospective Lions, and other trained vision care professionals volunteered to make this first time event a success.

June 17, 2017         Clean-up Crew for Relay for Life

Lions club members arrived early in the morning to help disassemble tents and break-down the set-up for the Floyd County Relay for Life. This included trash pick-up, hauling supplies, and general “return to proper order” of the site.

This event was held at the Mid-Town campus at the corner of 15th and Oak St. in New Albany.

February 25, 2017    St. Mark's Health Fair  

NA Lions provided vision screening for children 6 years of age and under.  Lion Sam Hopper from the Georgetown Lions Club also served and provided the equipment which was purchased using a grant from  the Floyd County Foundation.

There were six local optometrists who evaluated clients. NA Lions and WaterStep provided glasses. The Lions Club has partnered with St. Marks for several years and plans to continue into the future. If the correct prescription is not available, WaterStep and St. Marks work to provide the correct glasses.  If additional optometmetry services are required, a Lions Club application for referral is given to the client. Several Lions helped distribute and fit the glasses, and one served as a translator. This event is held at the church at 222 E. Spring St., New Albany.

*ONGOING COMMUNITY SERVICE

NA Lions Club funds eye exams and glasses for those in need in Floyd County. Applications may be obtained by contacting Sara Glass, the eyeglass chair at saraglass422@gmail.com.

NA Lions Club helps local residents who qualify obtain financial assistance from Indiana Lions with eye surgery to prevent blindness. 

NA Lions Club helps local residents who qualify obtain loaner or low cost hearing aids from Indiana Lions or Lions International.

NA Lions collection of used hearing aids - any condition!  Donated aids are sent to Indiana Lions Speech and Hearing to be referbished for use in the Loaner Hearing aid bank or recycled Drop in any glasses collection box.

NA Lions collection boxes for glasses – these boxes are scattered throughout the community and are emptied regularly by Lions club members.  Donated glasses, frames, and cases are cleaned, sorted, neutralized, labeled, and prepared for distribution throughout the community and abroad.  Lions International provides glasses for groups who do not have a source of repurposed glasses.  New Albany Lions donate to this supply when glasses are received that may not be needed in this area.  The Walmart Vision Center on Grantline Rd. ships all donated glasses to Indianapolis free of charge and has become a valuable partner in the process of recycling donated glasses.

October - GO FUND ME 

October- Harvest Homecoming - Speed pitch booth on grounds of St Marks

November/December - Since 1957, the club has been selling fresh cut Christmas trees. The current location of our tree lot is 2684 Charlestown Road.  We sell white pines, scotch pines and Frasier firs of various sizes.  We also offer wreaths, greenery and decorative reindeer.
