Lions KidSight USA is a nation-wide program bringing Lions clubs across the country together to ensure our children receive eye screenings and follow-up care when needed.
Montrose Lions Club is trained to provide this FREE service to the surrounding area. During the fall, we will visit private and public schools from around Montrose County as well as in 4 of the surrounding counties.
This service is targeted to children in the local schools, from 6 months to 6 years in age. The procedure is non-invasive and in cooperative children takes less than 10 seconds for a reading.
Here's how we do it
We use the PlusOptrix mobile vision screener. This analyzer takes a photo of the child's eyes and detects 6 important criteria that cause vision issues in children, these are:
Hyperopia (Farsightedness)
Myopia (Nearsightedness)
Astigmatism (Corneal irregularities)
Anisometropia (Unequal refractive power)
Corneal reflexes (eye symmetry alignment)
Size of pupils
How to have your child's vision screened
Annually, Montrose Lions schedule visits to roughly 15 public and private schools in Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Gunnison, and Hinsdale counties.
Contact your student's school nurse to see if and when this service is available
and fill out and submit the Parent Permission slip before the scheduled screening date.
