WHAT DO THE MASON NECK LIONS DO?

  • We support the Lorton Community Action Center by providing funds for their Thanksgiving and Christmas food program. We also provide Eye Examinations and glasses for their clients.

 

  • Our club supports the Northern Viriginia Eyeglass Center by collecting eyeglasses in the Lorton area. Our members also help staff the Sight and Hearing Van when is is assisting churches and schools in the Lorton Area.

 

  • Many or our Lions  support the Rural Area Medical Mission (RAM). This is a  four day medical mission to Wise County, VA. Our Lion volunteers assist the Sight and Hearing Van, give out school supplies and doing whatever else that needs to be done.

 

  • Mason Neck Lions participate in many enviromental projects in the Lorton area. We do tree planting, graffitti removal, Adopt-A-Highway program alond Old Colchester Road. We also work with the Boy Scouts by assisting Scouts earn their Eagle Ranking by providing assistance with a Storm Drainage Marking Project.

 

  • The Mason Neck Lions also fund and maintain the Northern Virginia Help Line. This Lions Help Line receives calls requesting assistance and provides help in solving their problems.

 

  • We raise funds for our service projects for events by providing food service in the Lorton Area.  Some of the events we assist are: The Eagle Festival; Earth Day Festival; Gunston Elementary Fitness Fair; Pancake Breakfasts, Shrimp sales and the July 4th Celebration at Lorton Station.

 

  • Some of the organizations that we help with financial assistance are: Leader Dogs for the Blind; Canine Companions for Independence; Lions Hearing Aid Bank Foundation; Virginia Eye Institute; Diabetes Awareness; Lions of Virginia Foundation, Sight and Hearing Mobile Van; Lions Youth Camp an the Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center of Northern Virginia.  
  • One of our members, Lion Steve Ault, is a prominent member and employee of
    PAHO, and they work along with the LCIF, and other organizations to help
    eradicate infectious diseases and blindness.
  • Uniting to Combat Neglected Tropical Diseases - UnitingtoCombatNTDS org http://www.unitingtocombatntds.org/ntd-video/ Dear family and friends, With the help of many partners including Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Bank, today the WHO made a major announcement of the plans to eliminate as public health problems a group of 10 Neglected Tropical Diseases globally by end of the year 2020.     stepping up the effort to eliminate both river blindness
    (onchocerciasis) and blinding trachoma even before 2020, (with the help
    of LCIF and many other partners).  As well, there are another 8 NTDS
