Meetings

The Long View Lions Club was organized on Tuesday, May 9, 1950 at the Long View School. The club's Charter Night was on June 30, 1950 and there were 29 Charter Members.

The Long View Lions Club held a 60-year Anniversary Banquet on June 19, 2010. The Long View Lions have obtained 1,701 pints of blood in Blood Drives, raised $76,000 to aid the visually impaired and assist in community projects. They worked with other civic clubs to obtain 6 acres of land to build the Long View Recreation Center which serves as the club's home base. They helped provide the Long View swimming pool, tennis courts and playground equipment.

In the 1966-1967 year, Lion Robert G. Frye served as District Governor and was president of the North Carolina Lions Foundation 1971-1972. The club supports White Cane, Camp Dogwood, the VIP Fishing Tournament and provides eye examinations, glasses, hearing aids and other services for the visually impaired and those in need of assistance in the community. The Long View Lions have raised funds by having broom sales, paper drives, Donkey Basketball games and minstrel shows. Members have worked concession booths, sold fruit cakes and held talent shows. They have held road blocks, pancake breakfasts, spaghetti dinners, Bar-B-Q suppers and Bass Sport-Fishing Tournaments.

Members have worked over 35,000 hours in service. They have secured 938 Eye Wills for the North Carolina Eye Bank, purchased over 1,400 eyeglasses, paid for eye exams, gave out 67 white canes, purchased wheelchairs and crutches, collected Campbell Soup labels and ink cartridges. They held a Golden Age Night Banquet for the community senior citizens, purchased groceries, heating fuel and clothing, given out Christmas baskets and helped organize the Long View Volunteer Fire Department.

For over 60 years, the Long View Lions have provided these services in support of Lionism. With new Lions coming in to the club, we continue to carry on a proud tradition - to live the motto: "We Serve".
