The Lions Club of Land O’Lakes was chartered on Jan. 22, 1969 with 38 Charter members. Our Charter Night was held in Cloyne on March 29, 1969, with Trenton Lions as the sponsoring club. In 1998 Land O’Lakes was the sponsoring club for Denbigh-Griffith Lions.

During the early years club meetings were held in a variety of locations including Cloyne, Denbigh, Flinton, Kaladar, Plevna, Napanee and Harlowe. The club acquired the Northbrook Community Centre from the Northbrook Community Association in 1983 and began a $60,000 renovation to transform it into the Lions Hall that we use today for our meetings and many community events.

Over the years, Land O’Lakes Lions have hosted many community activities and fundraisers. Weekly Bingo and our annual Toll Road events date back to the 1970s and continue to this day. Some activities of past years that have come and gone include Millionaire Nights and Halloween Masquerade Parties (early ‘80s), Pheasant Hunts (mid ‘80s), Ladies’ Nights, and Lawn Mower Races. During the late 1990s and early 2000s the club hosted the annual Blueberry Jamboree, which was a huge endeavour consisting of over 100 events and attractions spread over 5 days.

The club has always been a big supporter of local organizations including Pine Meadow Nursing Home ($150,000 to date), North Addington Education Centre (student bursaries and our new Heart of Service awards), local Scouts, Guides and Cadets, the Mazinaw Lake Swim Program and Kingston General Hospital.

While the number of members has fluctuated over the years, the club today has 38 members, exactly the same as when it began 50 years ago.
