Agricultural production possibilities in locations with unsuited soil properties: Soilless (hydroponic) agriculture is a production method that can be performed without being dependent on soil, which allows agriculture to be carried out in areas with unfit soils.

Earliness, increased yield and quality: A balanced nutrition and care will ensure earlier harvests and increased productivity for plants. Giving the desired nutrients to the plants at the amounts and time required it is possible to get early harvests and high quality produce.

Controlled nutrition of plants: It is possible to give nutrients to the plants selectively and introduce them at predetermined times and amounts. Thus the plant nutrition can be done in a controlled way. By fertilizing the plants in equal quantities it is possible to ensure equivalent levels of growth and development and comparable yield across the plants easily. Harmful effects of certain nutrients (Manganese, Iron, Zinc, Molybdenum, Copper, etc.) can be avoided. Problems like pH and salinity which have detrimental effect on plant nutrition in soil aquaculture can be avoided. In addition, intake and utilization performance of plants of nutritional components is positively impacted as it is possible to control the temperature and oxygen around the roots.

Economy and control of water: Excessive water is delivered to the plants in soil agriculture, because it is lost due to infiltration, entrapment in the soil and evaporation. Providing irrigation furrows and basins results in imposition of high costs for irrigation of agricultural fields every year. In soilless agriculture the water supplied is measurable and can be given to the plants in a controlled way; therefore, it is not wasted and since watering is automated, irrigation systems require less money.

Reduction in energy and workforce: Since technological features and fully automated systems come in play, there is a significant reduction in labor costs which are crucial for soil agriculture. Energy consumption is also reduced.

Disease, pest and weed management: Nutrient solutions and the growth medium to be given to the plants can be sterilized. Thus root caused diseases can be avoided. Moreover, the production is controlled during the growing period and risks for diseases and pests are considerably reduced. There is no weed problem because the growing media is water or solid.

Based on the research made, a system established at a small part of the greenhouse at Lions Educable Disabled Vocational School, lettuce seedlings planted and grown to be tested for natural growth and health produce validating the feasibility of the production. Soilless agriculture system is currently being installed in the entire greenhouse. As of the moment, lettuce seedlings are planted due to seasonal requirements and they are made ready for sale in 10 -day intervals. Companies were contacted and agreements were made for sales. At the end of February, tomato, pepper, bean and vine strawberry seedlings will be planted, and these fruits and vegetables will be grown and sold. Actions have been taken for ensuring the appointment of an agriculture teacher at the school. Our students with disabilities will be trained in soilless agriculture which will bring them job opportunities where they can grow healthy, water-saving produce, through the permanently income-generating project. It will also yield a significant income for the school every month.
