Meeting Minutes

5:30             Call Meeting to Order – Lion Mike Lambert

                     Invocation – Lion Don Minor

                     Pledge of Allegiance – Lion John Robertson

                     America – Lion John Robertson


5:35             Introduction of new Hood Canal Lions members – Lion Betty Widing

                     Betty introduced Jerry, Bob and Ed.

Ed requested to join the Hood Canal Lions Club.  He was formerly a Tumwater member and lives closer.  A motion was made and accepted.


6:15             Treasurer Report presented by Lion Marni Hart 


6:17             Mell Williamson has requested to join Hood Canal Lions as an affiliate membership

Jan made motion, Don Minor seconded the motion.  Lion Mike Lambert reviewed the different types of membership.


6:20             Announce 2018 Hood Canal Lions Club Scholarship Winners – Lion Mike Lambert

                     •Kaylee Nelson from Choice Alternative School

•Alecia Deanne Plant from Shelton High School (Lion Done Coleman was awarding the scholarships at the High School tonight.


6:25             Lion Mike Lambert provided and overview of the May Service Projects:

                     •White Cane Sales at Union Post Office May 4th & 5th, raised $411

                       Lions Don & Judy Coleman, Sue Ullom, Lloyd Layman, Jim Shakoske,

                       Richard McArthur and Rayni Lambert

                     •White Cane Sales at Hoodsport Post Office and IGA May 4th & 5th, raised $250

                       Lion’s s Betty Widing, Bob Grandaw and Jerry Jasper

                     •Road Clean-up on Hwy 106 for 2.5 miles, on May 10th

                       Lions Don Coleman, Sue Ullom, Archie Araujo, Jim Shakoske, Mike Lambert

                     •Feed the Hungry on May 15th

                       Lions Jerry Jasper, Pete VanZanten, Judy Beaty, Shawn Grimes and Betty Widing


6:30             Nomination for Vice President – Lion Mike Lambert

                     •Motion and Vote: Betty Whiting was nominated and unanimously voted in.


6:35             Membership dues for 2018-19 – Lion Sue Ullom

                     •$84 per individual, $146.50 per couple, $22.40 for Associate Member,

$84 for Affiliate Member.  Dues are payable by July 1st .  Lion Sue Ullom will send out bills to members and where to send it.  Hoodsport Lions will bill separate for now until the clubs are officially merged.


6:45             Old Business

                     •Lion Carol Norbeck - Community Life Line Dinner sign-up, volunteers needed

                     Thursday, May 26, 3:00-7:00 p.m., St. David’s Church Annex

Lion Carol commented on how good it is to always have volunteers.  Lion Betty said she would provide Carol with Judy Beaty’s contact info.  Judy coordinates the 3rd Tuesday meals currently put on by Hoodsport Lions.            

6:50             New Business

                     •Lions Golf Tournament – Lions Mike Lambert, Jim Kincaid, Bob Grandaw

June 23rd at Lake Cushman.  Sign-up sheet and information handout passed around for volunteers.                      •Hosting Zone C-2 August Picnic – Lion Jan Weatherly

This will be August 16th at Alderbrook Wiki Up location.  We will sell burgers and curly fries.  There will be games and an opportunity to socialize with other clubs.

                     •Request to sponsor hole at First Mates Tournament – Lion Jan Weatherly

Fundraiser for local food bank and Salmon for Soldiers, $50 request   The motion was made and accepted.  This will be July 12th at Alderbrook.  We will request participants bring old eye glasses.  We need to think of a small token prize for receiving the eye glasses.

7:15             Up and coming Events

                     •Hood Canal Golf Tournament, June 23rd at Lake Cushman Golf Course

                     •Shelton Centennial Lions Club Celebration, June 23rd at Smokin’ Moes         

7:20             For the Good of the Order – Lion Mike Lambert

Thank you letters were shared from Salmon for Soldiers and Special Olympics Washington

7:25 Club Photo – We will schedule this for the July Meeting at the Coleman’s house on the canal.  This potluck will take place July 19th.
