Cultural Awareness



South Florence High School Foreign Exchange Students from Egypt, Kyrgzstan, Pakistan and Qatar made presentation to club about their countries and cultural.  

Lion Deborah Goes International


​During vacationing in England, Lion deborah took advantage of an opportunity to visit local Lions club of the City of Newberry.

Lions and Leos Working Together


The Florence Evening Lions, South Florence and West Florence High School Leos Clubs combined forces to help deserving children of Florence School District One. McDonald’s provided free breakfast and a $10 gift cards. Children then witnessed the arrival of Santa Claus by fire truck. Santa and his elves then presented each child a gift-wrapped present. Under chaperones of Leos, children were treated to a $100 shopping spree of clothing items only. Meeting humanitarian service needs for our youth is a club priority.

The BLISS Ball


WFHS Leos acted as chaperones for BLISS Ball held at Calvary Baptist Church. The BLISS Ball is a prom type event for children and adults with special needs in the Florence community. It is for people who may not get the opportunity to attend a high school prom because of their disabilities. The theme for this year’s ball was “Under the Sea.” The goal is to make sure that everyone has the chance to experience a worry free ball without any limit to their enjoyment.

Hurricane Matthew Relief



Club joined forces to feed 1000 children in the aftermath of hurricane. In the end, 10,041 meals and 2000 mixed can goods were passed out.

Lion Cynthia visited club and provided updates as to happenings in the state and Lions Clubs International. Left, Lion Deborah and right, Lion Matt on behalf of Lion Eileen receives 15 year membership chevron. Providing HOPE


Lions Matt, Deborah and Audrey deliver hope to agencies in local community for deserving individuals. Partnering with Lighthouse Ministries and Counseling Center, homeless kits and knapsacks are provided for those in need.

Holly Beaumier, Director, Florence Convention & Visitors Bureau spoke to the club and shared things to do in and around Florence County.

Club Lion of The Year 2015-2016

Deborah Sorenson receives award in recognition of her ongoing commitment to provide needed humanitarian service to citizens of the local community. Sorenson, a Lion for 15 years, has participated in various club projects including vision screenings, collecting eyeglasses and hearing aids, kits for the homeless, knapsacks for children requiring counseling, meals; to name a few. Deborah serves as the Vision Screening Chairperson and is personally responsible for 2500 plus screenings in 2015-2016. The screenings detect nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, whether focal strength is equal in each eye, gaze deviation or "lazy eye," pupil sizes and whether pupils are lined evenly. She also serves as the Leo Club Advisor for South and West Florence High Schools. In this capacity, Deborah guide Leos in managing club activities and developing effective community service projects. Leos are a service project of Lions clubs. 

West Florence HS Leo Club Recognition 

Club Advisor, Lion Rhonda (r) and Leo club president receives 'Leo Club Advisor Outstanding Service Award and 100% Leo Club President's Award respectivefully. Awards are earned as establish criteria from Lions Club International Headquarters is met.  

Special Award... Special Lion


Lion Waylon receives Outstanding Service Award from Lion Matt. His service is impeccable and above reproach. He is the club's 'go to Lion.'

New Leo Club

Ceremony held for the official start club at the South Florence High School. The Lions Clubs International program provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community. Leo club activities and projects enhance the community and help young people develop and practice leadership, organization and social skills. 

 Free Vision Screening for Area Youth

Lions Deborah (l) and Waylon (r) provide free vision screenings for students of Carver Elementary School.  A total of 675 were screened with 85 referrals to see an optometrist or ophthalmologist. The SPOT Camera vision screening device detects nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, whether focal strength is equal in each eye, gaze deviation or "lazy eye," pupil sizes and whether pupils are lined evenly.
