East Hanover Lions celebrate 63rd Charter Night

March 25, 2014:  The East Hanover Lions club certainly had a lot to celebrate at their 63rd Annual Charter Night held at the American Legion Post 272 on N. Mountain Rd., Linglestown. Approximately 50 people were in attendance, including DG Lee Eisenhard, who conducted the induction ceremony for four new members:

Special guests included widows of deceased members who received lovely gift baskets filled with treats of all kinds. Also recognized were our "helpers" - volunteers who work in our club name at HersheyPark and those who make food for our various events. We also had a few prospective members attending.

Our original Charter was on display as well as scrap books, minutes and other mementos from the past. King Lion Eileen Longreen shared some interesting and funny club history she had discovered in old records.

Lion Crist Espenshade was named Lion of the Year.

Lion Betty Espenshade was honored with the President's Appreciation Award.

The East Hanover Lions club also awarded their very first Melvin Jones Fellowship to a well deserving Lion Glenn Moyer for his service to the club, his church, family and community.

A delicious buffet dinner was followed by entertainment by Marty's One Man Orchestra of Annville, Pa. He delighted the group with a sing a long dedicated to hits from the 50's - since the club was founded in 1951. The evening concluded with door prize drawings and a couple of applications taken.

Penbrook Lions claim Traveling Bell!!

Dateline January 28, 2014: Penbrook Lions President Carolyn Cassel headed a group of 10 Penbook Lions, including one Leo, in a daring raid to capture the District 14-T Region II Traveling Bell. The Bell has resided with the East Hanover Lions since March 14, 2009. In "surrendering" the bell, President Eileen warned the Penbrook Lions not to get "too comfortable". "We're coming for it" was the consensus among the East Hanover folks! All in all, it was a night of comraderie and fun between and among the two clubs. East Hanover wishes to thank the Penbrook club for joining us at our dinner meeting and would like to let all District 14-T Region II clubs know that the "Bell" is up for grabs!
