The Alto Lions Club was chartered in 1975. Since then we have donated over $150,000 to various projects and organzations. Eighty-six percent of the money we raise is used locally. The remaining 14% is donated to state and national needs.
These are some of the activities and charities the Alto Lions Club supports:
- Charter organization and supporter of the Alto Cub Scout Pack.
- Sponsor of the Alto Christmas Party, with the help of generous benefactors. Every school child in Alto under age 12 receives a gift from Santa.
- Continuing support to Friends and Neighbors 4-H, a group of special needs children who train and show horses.
- Bookcases for the Alto Elementary library and books for their accelerated reading program.
- Paws With a Cause - Assistance to an organization training assistance dogs.
- Wheelchair ramps, eyeglasses, hearing testing and hearing aids, medicines and special needs for local residents.
- Leader Dog - canine assistance for the visually impaired.
- Flat River Outreach - Christmas baskets and continuing support throughout the year.
- Scholarships - The Lions endow two scholarships to assist promising high school students with college expenses.
