CLUB PROJECTS

IN ADDITION TO MUCH APPRECIATED DONATIONS RECEIVED, THE WAYNESBORO LIONS CLUB MEMBERS HOLD FUNDRAISERS AND SERVICE PROJECTS THAT ENABLE US TO CONTINUE PROVIDING FINANCIAL AND HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TO THOSE IN THE COMMUNITY AND TO THOSE AROUND THE GLOBE WHO ARE AFFECTED WHEN DISASTER STRIKES.

Please see our calendar for specific dates, times, and locations.

SOLES4SOULS SHOE COLLECTION CAMPAIGN

The Waynesboro Lions Club is collecting gently-used footwear and clothing to donate to Soles4Souls (S4S).  S4S turn unwanted shoes and clothing into opportunity - by keeping them from going to waste and putting them to good use, providing relief, creating jobs and empowering people to break the cycle of poverty.    They collect new and gently-used shoes and clothing to distribute to people in need across the U.S. and around the world.  They launch and sustain small businesses selling donated shoes and clothes, they protect the environment by putting used goods to good use instead of wasting aware in a landfill, and they aim to empower women, ensuring tey have the opportunity and recognition they serve.

We invite you to contact any member of the Waynesboro VA Lions Club to collect your unwanted shoes and clothing, and we ship them to S4S.

Broom Sales:

Lions club broom sales are back!  We have a standard size house broom and a heavier reinforced patio broom for sale.  Brooms are available at select Lions fundraisers, the Waynesboro Garden Center, or Brooks Auto Repair in Waynesboro.  Ask your friendly neighborhood Lion for more information or contact our broom sales coordinator:  Lion Phil Sandridge at 540-942-3406.

Christmas Tree Sales:

2023 UPDATE:  Unfortunately due to the inability of the Waynesboro Lions Club to secure a Christmas Tree supplier, we were unable to offer Christmas trees for sale for the 2023 season.  We regret that this didn't allow loyal customers to continue their tradition of purchasing a beautiful tree while also giving to community members who need help during the holidays.  We plan to be back for the 2024 season.  Please watch for our spring, summer and fall chicken barbecue fundraisers before then.

Christmas tree sales are held the weekend after Thanksgiving and continue, weather permitting, until the last tree leaves the lot (usually mid December.)  Our Fraser Fir trees come in all shapes and sizes.  Are you looking for an easy way to give back to the community during the busy and often hectic holiday season?  Share with your children the joy of giving back to those in need:  Buy a Christmas tree from the Waynesboro Lions Club!  Trees are sold by Lions club member volunteers.  All proceeds benefit Lions service projects!

Eyeglass Recycling:

We've partnered with Walmart and Sam's Club to collect and recycle your used eyeglasses.  Just look for the collection boxes at Walmart and Sam's Club Vision Centers.  Drop your old eye glasses in the recycling box.  They may also be given to any Waynesboro Lions Club member.  We'll collect and clean the glasses and send them on to their next worthy recipients.  Recycled eyeglasses are provided to needy adults and children free of charge.  Please help us give the gift of sight!

Hearing Aid Recycling:

We're collecting hearing aids (in good condition) for reuse in the Waynesboro community.  The hearing aid will be professionally cleaned, reconditioned, and distributed to a person in need .  Please contact Lion Darla All (Sight & Hearing Chair)  if you would like to assist by donating a hearing aid.

Chicken Barbecue Fundraiser:

During the milder weather months, we hold a monthly chicken barbecue fundraiser, held at the corner of West Main Street and Lew DeWitt Blvd in Waynesboro.  Between 300 and 350 chicken halves are cooked on an open grill, then wrapped and sold.  Cooking begins early and sales start around 10:30 a.m., typically selling out by noon.

Shrimp Feast:

Let us do the cooking on a warm August night.  Enjoy all you can eat boiled shrimp and barbecue.  Be sure to save room for a delectable dessert!  Dinner festivities will be followed by a silent auction.   All of the proceeds from the night benefit Lions service projects.  If you are a business or individual, and you would like to donate an item for auction, please contact us.  Tickets can be purchased from a Waynesboro Lions Club member or by contacting us.
