Our Club accepted the "Lioness Bridging Program" offered by Lions International and "bridged" our "Lioness Club" (formerly Sooke Lioness Club) in September 2003 which became our official charter date. There were 25 original members of the newly formed Sooke Lioness Lions Club.  On July 1, 2010 we re-named our club to the Sooke Harbourside Lions Club.

In 2023, 57 members are very active in the Sooke community, but work closely with Lions and Lioness Clubs in Multiple District 19 (British Columbia, Washington, and Northern Idaho).  Our dress uniform is a cream vest with black blouse and black pants.  However, our work uniform is a black t-shirt which looks like a tuxedo.  We started wearing this work uniform after we did a play as the "blues sisters" at a Lions' convention.  This just proves that we are "always dressed up"!

The Sooke Harbourside Lions support the major service commitments and activities of Lionism, particularly diabetes awareness, sight conservation and work with the blind, and hearing conservation and work with the deaf.

Annually since 1993/94, the Sooke Harbourside Lions (formerly the Sooke Lioness Club) has conducted its Change for Diabetes campaign.  Approximately 700,000 pennies are contributed annually, and they are rolled by members of the Club and donated
to the Canadian Diabetes Association, BC-Yukon Division. The funds are used by the Charles H. Best Foundation for diabetes research.

We also support the Dog Guides Canada programs (Canine Vision, Hearing Ear Dogs, Special Skills Dogs) of the Lions Foundation of Canada, and the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) as well as CARE, Hearing foundation of Lions Int.

For 12 years we supported the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay Race by putting in a team.  Every year we raised thousands of dollars to send kids to camp. We raced at UVic's Centennial Stadium for 24 hours making a lifetime of difference for children with disabilities in BC!  In 2015 it changed to "The 24 Hour Camp Challenge" and then simply called "The Camp Challenge" and the event venue changed to Camp Shawnigan.  It was a wonderful event!
