Annual Christmas Party for Underprivileged Kids
Clarke County Lions Club held their Annual Children's Christmas Party on Friday December 11, 2009 at Enders Fire Hall in Berryville. This Christmas Party is held so that less fortunate children can experience the joys of Christmas. This year Clarke County Social Services and Clarke County Head Start identified 194 children from 96 families who were eligible to attend this event. One hundred and five of these children and their families were in attendance. Attendees enjoyed hot dogs, chips, cookies, brownies, fruit, and arts and crafts. The highlight of the event was a visit from Santa who arrived to the jingle of sleigh bells and hearty greatings of "Merry Christmas". Santa then spoke with each child and presented them with a bag of gifs selected especially for them. Each child also recieved a photo with Santa. Families and children who were unable to attend the party received their gifts the following day.
The event was made possible by the generous support of Target, Wal-Mart, John H. Enders Fire Company, Sara Huntington Photography, Santa, and the Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots Campaign. Aditional support was provided by Clarke County Lions, spouses, and friends who prepared and served the food, sorted, wrapped, packed, and transported the gifts; planned and staffed the arts and crafts activities; provided a candy cane reindeer for each attendee; and photographed each child with Santa.
