The West Brownsville Lions Club was organized on November 11, 1948. It was chartered with 39 members with 2 transfers from the Brownsville Downtown Lions Club. Our first president was Lion O.S. Woods with Lion Norman B. Ellis as secretary. The club met on Thursday noon at the Town House Restaurant at the corner of 8th Street and West Elizabeth Street.
Since the beginning the Club has provided eyeglasses for school children and has supported the Texas Lions Camp for handicapped children. Through the years members have elected to serve the community through scholarships, donations to charity, blood drives, and fundraisers.
“It is the mission of the West Brownsville Lions Club to improve the quality of life in our society, with dignity and excellence in the provision of services to needy persons, working in partnership with our community to fulfill our motto, WE SERVE!”
