WARREN LIONS CLUB COMMENCES ITS 2017-2018 YEAR BY SUPPORTING HARVEY RELIEF, VETERANS, CANCER TREATMENT/RESEARCH AND LOCAL EAGLE SCOUT PROJECTS

The Warren Lions Club would like to thank the community for its support and fa

ntastic attendance at EXPO this summer.  The Warren Lions Club is 55 members strong and a member of the Lions International community (http://www.lionsclubs.org/EN/index.php) which has over 46,000 clubs in every corner of the globe.  While our core mission is to prevent blindness and improve vision, we  also look to better our local community and assist in a broad range of humanitarian needs.

Lions International has recently donated $100,000 to Harvey relief and has identified fighting Diabetes to be included among its other top causes such as hunger, cancer and the environment.  On average, our local club donates to over 38 charities and needs-based projects each year; we hold an Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive, collect and distribute used eyeglasses and hearing aids, and award several merit and need-based scholarships to students in our community.

We have commenced our 2017-2018 year with a $1000 donation to the Houston Food Bank for Harvey relief (http://www.houstonfoodbank.org/get-involved/harvey-disaster-relief/ ).

The Houston Food Bank has a perfect score and 4-star rating on Charity Navigator and is directly serving some of the hardest hit Texas communities.  It has an established presence in those communities and will be continually providing assistance for the long period of recovery.

In addition, we have donated to Watchung Hills for Warriors (http://www.wh4w.org/), a local charitable foundation that raises funds to support veterans transition to civilian life.  WH4H has currently identified Semper Fi Fund (https://semperfifund.org/) as the recipient of its fundraising efforts.

We are sponsoring a local resident and Lion Member, Tom Krutis, in the Century for the Cure charity bike ride benefiting Rutgers Cancer Institute.  https://cinjfoundation.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donate.participant&participantID=5911

We have also donated to two local Eagle Scout projects creating improvements at the high school and a serenity labyrinth at Wagner Farms.  Our year of service is just beginning!  If you are aware of any needs in our community, diabetes-targeted charities/causes, local charitable initiatives, or potential town betterment projects, please contact Warren Lions Club President Adriane Stewart at 908-768-0264.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
