The Wabeno Lions Club, one of the oldest clubs in District 27-B2, was first organized as the Wabeno/Soperton Lions Club, on December 7, 1928.   At that time, Wabeno and Soperton, two prosperous logging communities, abutted each other.  The club held its first meeting on December 27, 1928.  Eventually, Wabeno and Soperton became one governmentally, and thus, the club became the Wabeno Lions Club.   

          As with most Lions Clubs, the Wabeno club was primarily a men’s organization, with 18 charter members.  Although the number of members has varied over the years, at present, the Wabeno Lions Club has 56 members, both male and female, including 19 couples.   Many of the members had fathers who were also members of the organization.

Although the early club was mostly a social club, meeting regularly as a man’s night out, the primary purpose of the club today is raising funds to help support many school and community groups.  A major fundraiser for many years has been its annual Lions/Legion Fish-O-Ree, which began over 45 years ago and is held the second Saturday in February.  For over 50 years, the club has sponsored the annual Lions Senior Banquet, honoring Wabeno’s graduation class each year.  For many years it has also sponsored a student honors banquet for outstanding students in all school subject areas and now sponsors a senior citizen banquet, providing a cost-free night out for the area seniors.  The Lions Club has sponsored high school juniors to Badger Boys State for many years and sponsors several high school scholarships.  The Wabeno Lions financially help a variety of other organizations, including making a significant donation to the Nu-Roc Community Healthcare Christmas party and the Wabeno Area Rescue Squad.  

The Wabeno Lions Club is the controlling board of the Wabeno Boy Scouts, Inc.  It takes pride in its ownership of Camp Harter Enders, a Boy Scout camp it built on land donated to the club, located on Little Long Lake in Forest County. 

The Wabeno Lions Club has been a highly respected philanthropic organization in the small Wabeno community for over 80 years.
