The Lions Club members, including the board members are all volunteers.  The international constitution and bylaws, by which ours and all clubs abide, require each club to maintain separate accounts for service projects and club activities.   EVERY penny received from the public, whether it was donated or received in payment for a funnel cake, MUST be returned to the public through a community service project.  Any money spent on the club activities or supplies is provided by the membership with most of the club funds coming from club dues.

The following is a list of support provided to the community by our service funds:

Georgia Lions Lighthouse, Georgia Lions  Camp for the Blind, Lions Club International Foundation, eye exams for local people in need, Boy Scouts, Star and honor student night, Towns County High School scholarships, Young Harris scholarship, FBLA, Give-A-Christmas, White Cane, Towns County Food Pantry, Towns County Fire Department and the Clay Dotson YHC Golf Tournament.

The service funds come from the White Cane bucket drive, the auction for the Give-A-Christmas, donations from members and the public, and the largest fundraiser by far is the funnel cake booth at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds.  Read more on our club projects page.

********************************

The fair is a project of the TC Lions Club but the only money provided to the Lions Club is that which is made by the Funnel Cake Booth.  All other money collected by the fair (GMF) is used to maintain the fairgrounds and pay bills required to keep everything operating.

Read more about the fair on our club projects page.

DONATIONS NEEDED

One of the primary purposes of the Towns County Lions Club is to assist those with vision and hearing impairment. We do this by assisting people who cannot afford to pay for needed exams and eyeglasses.  Thanks to you, the Towns County Lions Club has provided this need to members of our community for many years.  However, each year the challenge becomes greater as funding sources are limited.  This past year we have had to limit our assistance to mainly children, yet there are many adults in Towns County needing this assistance too.   With your generosity, we can serve more people and help meet their needs as it relates to vision and hearing.  Please consider donating to the Towns County Lions Club for this purpose.

The Lions .... Who We Are   (Video Link)

The Lions create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement.

Lions are part of a family of more than 1.35 million strong, working in harmony throughout 206 countries and geographic worldwide. They exist to serve the less fortunate and since 1917 have been united in this vision.

Lions are committed to preventing blindness and visual impairment. For over 90 years, they have devoted their time and efforts to providing assistance and resources to the blind and visually impaired. They are also focused on tackling the tough issues facing the young, the disabled and the underprivileged in our communities... issues like drug abuse, peer-pressure and self esteem, lack of training and elder care.

Lions success comes from the commitment of their members to building a brighter future for the world and for themselves. With each new Lion member, the organization becomes stronger and more enlightened. Today's Lions are working smarter, faster and with more direction and commitment than ever before. WE ARE THE LIONS...WE SERVE!

Lion President Janice King says, " The Lions of Towns County welcome you and we appreciate you visiting our web site.  If you are reading this and have not yet been invited to join the Lions, please accept my personal invitation to become involved in the activities of our community."

Check out the various links reflecting the activities of your Towns County Lions Club (Just click the links on the side). We invite you to visit with us at one of our regular meetings, which are normally held at Daniel's Steak House, Big Sky Dr., Hiawassee, Georgia each 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings at 6:00 P.M. The regular exceptions are during the Summer Fair in July and Fall Festival in October, Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks.
