Tawa Lions serving the Tawa Community for 58 years.

This well known sign at the southern entrance to Tawa was donated by the Lions Club of Tawa in 1986

The Lions Club of Tawa was chartered on 16 February 1966 and currently has a membership of more than 28 members. Our club is a mixed gender club from Young to Young at Heart and our objective is to serve the Tawa community by upholding the principles on which Lions Clubs International was founded.

Tawa is the northern-most, friendly community in Wellington, the nation’s capital city. The area is predominantly residential with associated shopping and service facilities, good schooling and light to medium industry.

An important part of serving the community is fund raising. Our weekly Saturday Tawa Lions Market at Outlet City, 24 Main Road,Tawa from 9 am to 2 pm is our main source of funds.

Since its inception in 2006, the Saturday Market has raised in excess of  $300,000.   This has enabled the Tawa Lions Trust to make many donations, including a major contribution of $30,000 towards the new Wellington Ronald McDonald House, which opened in 2012.

In addition, we organise and run the annual Tawa Lions Christmas Parade, bringing together many local organisations and groups to particpate in the parade.

Other regular activities include collecting for Street Appeals, driving the disabled for the Whitford Brown Trust, selling our renowned Lions Christmas cakes and collecting used Batteries, wine bottle tops and other aluminium, for recycling and eye glasses for refurbishing and sending up to the Pacific Islands.

Our Tawa Lions Saturday Market is open every Saturday except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. We have a full range of vegetables,  eggs and honey. Car boot sales welcome.

Christmas 2024 Lions Christmas Cakes now available from our Saturday Market stall at Outlet City car park. See Club Projects for details.
