Surrey Border Lions Christmas Gift Cards

Despite all the Coronavirus restrictions which resulted in us not being able to “fund raise” this year, Surrey Border Lions still managed to purchase and distribute a total of 95 Co-operative Store Gift Cards in time for Christmas; a total of 77 single adults, 18 couples and 96 children in our three villages (Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham) will benefit from receiving the Gift Cards, an increase of nearly 30% compared to last year.

40 Years’ Service

Surrey Border Lions Treasurer David Pollen received his 40 year Chevron. Because of  the Coronavirus restrictions, David was presented with his award by his wife Ann, watched by his fellow Lions during the December Business Zoom meeting.

99 Years’ Service and Still Going Strong

Last month Surrey Border Lions thanked two of their members, Eric Julius and Rob Gibson for their dedicated work in the community and their commitment to the Club. Each was presented with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award (the highest honour a Lions Club can bestow on an individual). 

Eric and Rob were formerly members of Frimley and Camberley Lions and with other members of that club became founder members of Surrey Border Lions Club in 1980. Between them they have been serving our local community for over 99 years.

Surrey Border Lions 100 Club

Due to the uncertain future of Surrey Border Lions it has been decided not to continue with the 100 Club when the current memberships expire at the end of August. The final monthly draw will take place in August and winners will be notified subsequently.

Lions Supporting Communities During COVID-19 Crisis

In response to the Shooting Star Chase Hospice Emergency Appeal, Surrey Border Lions submitted an application for a share of the UK Lions £100,000 Foundation Special Fund launched to support local communities during the COVID-19 crisis.  The Foundation Trustees awarded Surrey Border Lions £750 which was rounded up to £1,000 with monies from the Club’s Trust Account before being donated to Shooting Star Chase Hospice Appeal

Due to the evolving situation in relation to the Coronavirus issue, it has been decided to postpone indefinitely the Surrey Border Lions & Woking Lions Joint Charter that was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 17th May 2020.

Surrey Border Lions Club which has helped hundreds of local charities and individuals over the years, as well as contributing to national and international disaster relief is on the brink of closing. Thanks to the generosity of the customers at Longacres and Waitrose (Sunningdale) Surrey border Lions raised a substantial sum of money which will enable the Club to continue supporting local people and organisations during the next twelve months.

GIFT CARDS FROM LIONS

Following the success of replacing Christmas food parcels with Stores Gift Cards, Surrey Border Lions Club distributed over 60 Co-operative Store Gift Cards at a cost of £1830 to elderly residents and needy families which will benefit over 110 local residents in our three villages (Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham).

Surrey Border Lions were represented at the Remembrance Sunday services held in our three villages. Poppy wreaths were laid by Club Officers at St Annes Bagshot, All Saints' Lightwater and St Johns Windlesham.

Once again thanks to the support of local businesses and the generosity of the people in Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham, Surrey Border Lions have raised £400 in their annual “Name Card” Eggstravaganza; the proceeds of which will be donated to the Lions District appeal for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance.

SURREY BORDER LIONS CELEBRATE THEIR 39th ANNIVERSARY

On 12th May Surrey Border Lions celebrated their 39th anniversary of the Club receiving its’ Charter with a luncheon at Camberley Heath Golf Club. This year Members and Friends were joined by Pete Dilloway the Lions District Governor for the South East, Katia Malcaus Cooper Chairman of the Windlesham Parish Council, along with fellow Lions from the Cranleigh, Guildford and Woking Clubs.

In accordance with tradition, Barry Auty the President of Surrey Border Lions gave a brief speech thanking Surrey Border Lions Club members and all our guests for joining us at our 39th Charter, a fantastic turnout
