History
82 years ago on May 6th, 1940, 41 enthusiastic community minded men began a journey of Lionism in the St. Louis area. Their charge was to serve the community by promoting the social, cultural, and morale welfare of its residents. During that decade, club membership remained constant between 40 and 45 members. The largest club census of 107 members was recorded in 1948. In March of 1949, the St Louis Lions Club partnered with the Saginaw Lions Club to co-sponsor Hemlock as a new Lions Club. In 1954, the St Louis Lions Club sponsored the Ashley Lions Club. In 1995, the St Louis Lions Club merged with the Alma Lions Club to become the St Louis/Alma Lions Club. In May of 2010, the club held a special celebration for our 70th year anniversary. We are currently in our 82nd year of serving the community and helping those who are disadvantaged and less fortunate than ourselves. We achieve this by purchasing new eyeglasses and hearing aids for local resisents, installing handicapp ramps, and any other needs of the community. We have also delivered food baskets, developed the local Lions Park with shelters and walking paths, participated in Adopt - A-Highway on North 127, and collected used eyeglasses for use in third world countries to name just a few.
