Club Charter Date : 16th of September 1972
Charter President : Late PCC Lion Goh Seng Chee
Sponsor Club: Lions Club of Singapore Jurong
The Lions Club of Singapore West was chartered on the 16th of September 1972 by the late PID Peter Fu Yun Siak at the Mandarin Hotel. Led then, by our charter president PCC Goh Seng Chee, 2009 will mark the 37th year in which West club has actively participated in active community service.
Our years have been characterised by outstanding leadership, meaningful projects, district and international involvement, great fellowship and extension work. We have sponsored a total of 7 clubs in Singapore and have links with 8 twin clubs from Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
The club has raised over SGD 1.2 million in fund raising projects that has gone towards a myriad of beneficiaries, that have included Children’s charities, Scholarship funds, School Rebuilding funds, Bursaries, Refugees, Medical services (that have included even sponsoring patients for Hole-in the heart operations) and of course, our very own Lion’s Home for the Elders.
The fund raising projects themselves are a testament to the colour, vibrance and creativity of our club and its members. We have organised Christmas Balls, Concerts, Film premieres, Beauty Pageants, Bowling Games, Golf Tournaments, Basketball Games, Carnivals, Food Fairs and Telematches.
This excludes the countless other service projects, both local and abroad, that we have served with our many twin clubs, in which our members have contributed generously in both time and money. Projects such as the Phuket Sunshine Village, an orphanage for the homeless surviving children of Boxing Day Tsunami of Dec 2004; projects such as the distribution of hot meals at the Mei Ling Street Senior Activity Centre, that continues till this day.
Special recognition must be paid to all amongst us, who have also served and contributed heavily as officers within the district, including 6 who have gone on to become district governors: Lions Goh Seng Chee, Anthony Cheong, Eric Ng, S G Chin, William Kwok and Charlie Chan.
We look forward
{C} to many more great years ahead. Roar ! Roar! Roar!
