History of Lions Club Scotland District

Lions Club Scotland District was conceived from the idea that there was a need for a service club in the Scotland District community.  On this premise Lions from the North Club, Bridgetown and Central came  together and initiated the process by requesting a charter from Lions Club International.

The request was approved and the Club was formed on December 23rd, 1991 with the name Lions Club St Joseph and St Andrew.  Lion Ian John from Lions Club North was the Charter President and Lions Reverend Colton Bennett M.J.F., P.D.G and Louis  Forde provided guidance for the Club.

The Club carried the charter name until 1998 when it was changed to Lions Club Scotland District due to consistent confusion of mailing addresses between Lions Club Scotland and another Lions Club in St Andrew, Grenada.  This name change embraced the Scotland District community which comprises St Andrew and St Joseph.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
