Lions Children of Courage Awards

What are the "Lions Clubs Children of Courage Awards"?

Children of Courage are children who continually struggle to overcome physical and mental difficulties in their lives whilst maintaining a fantastic attitude and enjoyment of life. Children of Courage are also the brothers and sisters of family members with physical and mental difficulties - they are also Children of Courage in their unstinting support of their less-able sibling.

The Lions Children of Courage Awards is NOT a competition. Every recipient of an award is a “winner” in his or her own right as the recognition of these young people’s achievements will:

  1. Act as an encouragement for their future

  2. Help them to believe in themselves, and

  3. Help increase their self-worth

The family also benefits from the award, sharing in their pride and the recognition of how these children have overcome the many hardships that they face on a day to day basis.

The awards are broken up into four categories that are fully explained later:

    Special Needs

    Courageous act or deed

    Sibling Recognition

    Inspiring sporting achievement

  4. How are these young people nominated…
Each club nominates a child within their area; they then choose one of the four categories to nominate them for. The child receives a written accolade that is read out in full to the audience. They are presented with a lovely plaque also.

Applications are sent to the Lions Clubs District Youth Chairman who liaises with the zone chairman in each area, and a special presentation event is held in each zone to award these children.
