Founded in 1917 in Chicago, Lions Clubs were challenged by Helen Keller to become "Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness" at their 1925 international converntion. "We Serve" is our motto and over the genertions it extended to more than just services to the visually and hearing impared.

Our club built & staffed the original swimming pool on the site on today’s Lions Park Pool.

Our club previously sponsored the 4th of July parade and we continue to participate and provide assistance to our local police with traffic control on the route.

Our club honors our veterans.  With the Prospect Heights Garden Club we donated & dedicated a Blue Star Memorial that is in front of our police department.

Our club donated to the Prospect Heights Park District for improvements to the accessible front walk at the recreation center.

Our club supports our local fire protection district and local police department. Through funding assistance we helped them purcahse a thermal camera, fire rescue boat and bulletproof shield.

Our club, with the local police, fire & village, provide holiday meals and gifts to needy families through our Secret Santa raffles.

Lions give sight. Around the world, Lions conduct vision screenings, equip hospitals and clinics, distribute medicine and raise awareness of eye disease like diabetes. Lions work toward our mission of providing vision for all. We have extended our commitment to sight conservation through countless local efforts and through our international SightFirst Program, which works to eradicate blindness.

Our club provides countless eye exams & eye glasses for members of our community in need.

Our club provides college scholarships for hearing & vision imparred students in our district.  To date those scholarship awards total more than $60,000.

Our club collects & recycles eyeglasses & hearing aids for distribution in developing countries.

Lions serve youth. Our community projects often support local children and schools through scholarships, recreation and mentoring. Internationally, we offer many programs, including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange and Lions Quest.

Our
Leo Program provides the youth of the world with an opportunity for personal development through volunteering. There are approximately 144,000 Leos and 5,700 Leo clubs in more than 140 countries worldwide.

Our club has sponsored many sight & hearing impared youth to attend Camp Lions each summer.

Our club sponsors youth in our community to attend summer camp programs with the Prospect Heights Park District that they would not be able to attend otherwise.

Lions award grants. Since 1968, the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has awarded more than US$700 million in grants to support Lions humanitarian projects around the world. LCIF was also ranked the number one nongovernmental organization in a 2007 study by The Financial Times.

Our club annually contributes to the Lions of Illinois Foundation (LIF) and the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LFIC) to assist with their programs for sight, hearing, disaster relief and other programs on the state, national & international levels.

Lions help during disasters. Together, our Foundation and Lions are helping communities following natural disasters by providing for immediate needs such as food, water, clothing and medical supplies – and aiding in long-term reconstruction.

Our club, along with others in our local district, provide funds for disaster relief worldwide and funds & a response teams to assist locally.  Most recently our local district team provided assistance during the 2018 flooding of the Des Plaines & Fox rivers in Illinois.

Lions are active. Our motto is "We Serve." Lions are part of a global service network, doing whatever is necessary to help our local communities.
