The Nelson Lions Turned 80! |
Photo Credit: Tyler Harper/Nelson Star - Thanks Tyler for joining our event and this great photo! |
The Nelson Lions marked 80 years of service with a community celebration at Lakeside Park on September 13, 2025. Members, family, and friends gathered to honour the club’s 1945 charter and the thousands of volunteer hours that have strengthened Nelson across eight decades. Guests included Mayor Janice Morrison, Lions District Governor (19-I) Steve Sweeney, and our club president Travis Nakken, who each spoke to the power of “We Serve” and the very local ways it shows up in Nelson—year after year. The program looked back at the club’s legacy and forward to what’s next, with thanks to partner service organisations and community supporters who make projects possible. After the remarks, everyone connected over finger-foods and shared stories about favourite projects and the people behind them. If you’d like to get involved—or help us launch a Leo youth club with students at L.V. Rogers—we’d love to hear from you. Whether you have a few hours or a new idea, there’s a place on the team. Our apperciation to Tyler Harper, Nelson Star, who wrote a wonderful article of the event. |
