2020 Special Community Donation during coronavirus pandemic....
The Mukwonago Lions Foundation has donated over $10,000.00 to the following organizations; Mukwonago Education Foundation, Family Promise of Waukesha County, and Willow Creek Ranch. Most importantly, these groups have the network to reach out to people in need. The Lions donation included a donation in the name of the Mukwonago Lioness Club.
During these unprecedented times, the Mukwonago Lions Community Service Committee was given the task to research ways the Lions could help our Mukwonago community. We received requests from organizations and reviewed several other organizations that serve our community. Our goal was to help the most people in our community in a timely and efficient manner.
The Mukwonago Education Foundation was chosen to have the Pupil Services Team of MASD, from K through 12th grade, choose families that are in biggest need of assistance. This donation would be coordinated by the Director of Pupil services with input from the Pupil Service professionals at each school (Counselors, Social Workers, Psychologists). They have identified 75 families who are great in need. They are planning to provide gift cards for food, gift cards for gas, and a variety of ways of providing basic needed items such as hygiene products, diapers, wipes, etc.
Family Promise of Waukesha County is a non-profit organization that assists local homeless families and their children experiencing homelessness to regain and retain their independence. Families are provided with overnight shelter, meals, and support services with the goal of achieving permanent housing and sustainable independence. Their local host and support congregations provide families with meals and overnight shelter. Their Day Center provides one-on-one case management to create individual plans towards self-sufficiency, and connect them with existing community services to find job training, employment, daycare and affordable housing. They utilize volunteers and the facilities of 28 area churches in addition to their office location. The Mukwonago school system is served by Family Promise. Families generally work through the program in 45-60 days. The current pandemic has disrupted this timetable and continuing service is being provided.
The Willow Creek Ranch Therapeutic Riding Center requested help to maintain their animals and ranch during these pandemic times. The ranch depends on lesson fees, donations, and their business partnership with Honey Creek Counseling and Recovery to provide funds for their financial stability. With Willow Creek Ranch and Honey Creek Counseling having to suspend their services, their sources of income have ended for now.
