Meetings

Who we are

Well, here we all are at the 2013 AGM.

Morpeth Lions members at 2013 AGM

Morpeth Lions Club is a member of Lions International and serves the local community of Morpeth.

What we do

We will help where it is needed and we are able by providing financial assistance and manpower where necessary.

Among those we have helped recently are:

  • Young Morpeth Gamesmakers (members of Morpeth Swimming Club who volunteered for the London 2012 Olympics)
  • A young lad called Archie who needed an expensive operation only available in America
  • Morpeth Talking Newspaper
  • Morpeth Gathering
  • 200 Christmas parcels of food for local needy, elderly or infirm residents or families
  • Donations to other organisations including Sight Savers, Water Aid and Newcastle Children’s Hospital Charity
  • As part of a group of Morpeth Voluntary organisations, along with the Rotary Club and Soroptimists we raised funds to help those affected by the recent Morpeth flooding

Please click on the "Photo Gallery" link on the left hand side to see some photos from these activities.

The help we provide is funded by donations from the public which we raise in a number of different ways. We have Street Collections, Raffles, a Fishing Competition, host meals with the support of a local restaurant and a Quiz Night (with Rotary Club) and a casino Night are planned for the near future. The Photo Gallery also includes pictures of Lions in collecting mode.

The club members also have self funded social activities which include Barbecues, Walks in our wonderful countryside, Dinners and "Educational Visits". As a new member the webmaster has not had firsthand experience of the last mentioned but understands that they usually involve Breweries or Distilleries !

We are always open to applications for membership. If you would like to come along and meet us to see if we are for you, then send us an email by clicking here.

In 2012 Morpeth Lions Club celebrated its 40th birthday. Celebration events started with the planting of 40 trees in the William Turner garden in Carlisle Park.
