“Lions Club of Mbarara (LCM) Roars with Commitment to Lionism”

For the past thirty years, the Lions Club of Mbarara (LCM) has been providing assistance to more than one million people in and around Mbarara. Established on the 17th of January 1989, LCM has been organizing various service projects, such as sight and diabetes screening, cancer treatment for children, environmental protection, and aid to the hungry.

The club has several signature projects, including the blind children at St Hellen’s Primary School (SHPS), Katete Health Centre, and the Pediatric cancer clinic at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH). Recently, through the Lions Clubs International Foundation, LCM has also been working on the diabetic retinopathy project at Mbarara University and Referral Hospital Eye Centre (MURHEC) and the Lions Comprehensive Eye Care project for Kigezi. These projects have had a tremendous positive impact on the people of Mbarara, the entire Southwestern and Kigezi sub-regions.

Membership has been essential in making this service a reality. At the moment, LCM has 95 members, who demonstrate a strong commitment, cohesion, and compassion that has safeguarded the club. Of particular significance is the New Voices program, which has enabled the female members of LCM to reach their full potential. They are now participating in club events and taking on leadership positions, including the presidency, and have done a remarkable job.

To us, New Voices are the roses and violets that diffuse a scent of improving our lives in both the personal and professional fields. The LCM is also passionate about the youth and as such sponsors a Leo club at Mbarara University of Science and Technology. This youth-centric initiative has been a catalyst for engaging the community effectively, having already provided benefits to more than 600 people through medical camps.

We work with valued partners; Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH), Radio Maria Uganda, EYIT Television, Kool events, Extreme events Mbarara, Dr. Arunga’s Eye hospital, Bless a child foundation and Vine Inn Hotel.

As Amelia Earhart once said, "A single act of kindness sets off a chain reaction of the same." Let us never tire of assisting with kindness. May lionism continue to flourish!

As lions club of Mbarara, we have a spirit of lionism

"Let lionism grow from strength to strength"
