Sno Cone/Cotton Candy Concession

Every year we do between five and six concessions selling Sno Cone and Cotton Candy.  We do them at School Fairs and at Community events.  The schools get a portion of the sales.  Are major Community Events are the Strawberry Festival, Cadboro Day, and Metchosin Day.  If you are interested in having our Concession at an event please contact the Club Secretary on our Contact Page.

Christmas Tree "Chip in for Kids"

Every year on the first weekend after January 1, the Gordon Head Lions gather trees at the University Heights Mall for the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilites.  All funds raised is used to fund the programs of the BC Lions Society for Children with Disabilites including Easter Seal House in Vancouver and camps in Shawnigan, Winfield (Lake Country) and Squamish.

SPOT SCANNER

Working with the Central Saanich Lions Club, the Gordon Head Lions Club is checking eyes of elementary students to see if they need glasses or have any other vision problem.  In December 2019 one school was done and more schools will be done in January and February 2020.  This will be an yearly program supported by both Lions Clubs.

Eye Glass and Hearing Aid Collection

Lion Dick has set out many eye glass collection boxes throughout Victoria, Saanich and the Saanich Penninsula collecting eye glasses to be sent overseas to Third World Countries to assist those in need of eyeglasses.  At the same time, one can drop off there old hearing devices that will be given after being repaired to people in need in Victoria, Saanich and the Saanich Penninsula.  So look for these collection boxes and donate your old glasses (including sun glasses) and hearing devices.  Thank you for your support.

Peace Posters Contest

For many years, Gordon Head Lions have been very involved in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest.  At one time, we had over 20 schools in the Greater Victoria Area involved but with the advent of Middle Schools that has become 5 or 6 schools.  Students sketch, draw, paint a picture on a Topic (theme) selected by Lions Club International and a judging is done at each school.  And then the Club under the leadership of Lion Jim, selects three posters to be sent to the District Governor.  The District Governot selects a winner for the District and forwards that poster to our Multiple District Office in Bellingham where a winner from the 9 Districts of our Multiple District to Lions International to be judged.  Gordon Head Lions have been fortunate to have several of these posters make it to be judged at the International level with two Merit Award Winners.
