Kansas Lions Leadership Roundup

March 17, 2018 - Garnett Lions travelled to McPherson, Kansas for the Kansas Lions Leadership Roundup.  Seminars included "Facebook - Why Your Club Needs it and How to Set it up", "The World Wide Web - A Look at Lions Club International, Your State, District, and Club Websites", "What is a Leader - Where to Find Them, How to Involve Them", and "Building a Better Club with Volunteers". 


Farmers Night

March 5, 2018 - Twenty-six local farmers were guests of the Garnett Lions club at the club's Farmers Night dinner held at the Garnett Senior Center.  This annual event is an opportunity for the club to show their appreciation for Garnett-area farmers.  The Cowboy Band provided the music and the Senior Center provided the meal.  Bill Pracht, president and chief executive officer of East Kansas Agri-Energy was the evening's speaker.  He discussed the structure of the Garnett plant, its future, the markets overseas, and the demand for future blends.


Lions Club Distrct 17N Convention

March 2-3, 2018 - Garnett Lions traveled to Wichita on March 2 and 3 for the District 17 N Convention.  Friday evening festivities included dinner, music, dancing, and entertainment at the Doubletree by Hilton.

Saturday seminars included "DIABETES - A New Challenge for Lions" by Dr. Richard Guthrie, internationally-renowned diabetes specialist, "The Innovation Campus - A Model of Cooperation" by Lou Heldman, Vice President, Strategic Communications, Wichita State University, and "The Latest from Lions International: A Discussion with Past International President and Vice Chair Global Action Team Mahendra Amarasuriya".

At the noon celebration banquet, Past International President Amarusuriya delivered the keynote address, "Celebrating Service through the Power of WE", followed by club recognition and an awards ceremony.


Garnett City Commissioner Brigitte Brecheisen-Huss

February 5, 2018 - Our speaker was our newest commissioner, Brigitte Bercheisen-Huss.

Brigitte discussed the mechanics of city commission/ city administration relationship. She expects commissioners to be more clued in, more involved in providing direction, and the city manager and staff more accountable to commissioners to accomplish goals set by the commission's leadership.
