FAKENHAM AND DISTRICT LIONS CLUB 38 Years Serving the Community |
Since the Club’s formation over £100,000 has been raised and distributed. Many people will remember the annual Country Days held on the Fakenham Race Course and the two days in Sennowe Park. To run these events requires a committed membership of over thirty and unfortunately, like many similar clubs in the region, our average number has fallen to less than half of that. However, we are still actively fund raising and enjoying ourselves socially whilst organising events. Last year we had a successful raffle at the ‘Off Road’ event at Bircham Newton and Holkham Country Fair.
This year we will be selling our Lions’ cakes again in Fakenham, Holt and Briston, having a Christmas Tree in Sts Peter and Paul Church, Fakenham, and other events are also in the pipeline, so please read our publicity.
In 1989 The Club took the decision to establish a twinning connection with the Lions in Olivet, France. Since then a number of very enjoyable visits have been made in both directions, and many good friendships forged.
The Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at Gallows Sports’ Centre. Members, often with their wives, normally precede the meeting with supper, after which the men retire for their Business Meeting, leaving the wives to socialise.
New members are always welcome and if you would like to know more about us please contact Alan Taylor on 01328 700853 or Patrick Whitmore on 01263 711872.
Lions Clubs have also been established locally at Dereham, King’s Lynn, Hunstanton, Swaffham, and Wells-next-the-Sea, and Alan or Pat will gladly put you in touch.
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
