Awards & Recognitions

The Encinitas Lions Club serves on every level we are able! We partner with other Lions Clubs & Non-profits to help those in need. We teach those in our youth program, Leos, the qualities of leadership and service. As we serve with open hearts, Lions and Leos know the vaue and joy of social and civic service. When we are awarded or honored with recognition it is received humbly.

Youth Program 2020-2021 Leadership

Encinitas Lions Club has always supported youth leadership programs. The students who serve in our Leos club, not only build personal strengths; they network with other Leos via conferences, projects and online activities. We offer the Richard Walworth Leo's Essay scholarship. The Walworth scholarship is named after one of our club's founders. The scholarship is awareded to a Leo who is a graduating senior from an Encinitas high school. One of the service programs the Leos enjoy is working on the Lions Club International Rose Parade Float. Our district's Leos Clubs enjoy a day of fun and friendship while decorating LCI's float with other Leos clubs from around California.

L.E.O. (Leadership, Excellence, Opportunity) Clubs teach youth leadership, empowerment and the value of serving their communities. Through our Leos Club, youth create service projects to help their peers, the blind, hearing impaired, disadvantaged, and teach equality. These valuable lessons of service, respect, and encouragement will last a lifetime. Many Leos grow up to be Lions and build on their passion for service.

Welcome message from 2020-2021, President, Rachel D. White

My passion for volunteering started when I was in high school; I always try to find new ways to serve my community. My greatest honor to date is being voted President of the Encinitas Lions Club for the 2020-2021 year.

Ambitious is a word often used to describe me, probably because I believe there is a solution to every problem. I look forward to serving my Board, club and our friends and neighbors in Encinitas and the nearby cities in North San Diego County.

The Encinitas Lions Club Blind Surf Event and our youth programs will always be at the center of my service.

Blind Surf: Our Signature Annual Event!

In 1995 the Encinitas Lions Club wanted to find a way to bring the surf culture to blind and visually impaired community of San Diego. After 25 years of hosting this event, we have seen it grow from 70 participants to over 300. The youth and their families and some first time adults are now regulars.

We have participants who travel from as far as Arizona to spend the day with us. This event is something we take pride in. We are greatful for our current sponsors and donors listed above. We welcome new corporate and community sponsors and donors to help keep this event free and accessable to our blind and visually impaired guests.

Gift of Sight Program: Serving Encinitas Children in Need

The Encinitas Lions Club takes pride in helping the blind and sight impaired.

Through our Gift of Sight program, we are dedicated to the children in our school district with vision problems. Our chairperson receives notices from the school nurses when there is a child in need who has a vision problem. The child is sent to a local eye doctor for testing and eyeglasses to correct that problem.

California Multi-District 4: Student Speaker Contest

The Encinitas Lion Club participates annually in our California Multi-District Student Speaker Contest.

This contest is exclusive to California Lions Clubs. It was created to award scholarhips to highschool students.

Students participate via their local Lions Club, by signing up with Lions Club Student Speaker Chair. We work with local highschools within Encinitas, to inform students who may want to compete. This competition is one of many wonderful Statewide Lions events we choose to participate.

This contest enables students who care about current event topics, to present their solutions to address the topic choosen for that year. Encinitas youth along with their peers will hopefully find and create a solutions to make our world better.
