Toy Drive For Children's specialized Hospital : December 19th 2011

 

 To make holidays joyful for many kids with special needs Edison Visionary Lions Club organized a toy drive for the Children’s Specialized Hospital of New Jersey.   More than 100 toys and other goods like baby wipes and crafts items worth around $1000 were given to the hospital on December 19th.Children's Specialized Hospital is the largest pediatric healthcare rehabilitation system in the United States. It is the preeminent provider of rehabilitation for children with special needs. The hospital serves children affected by brain injury, spinal cord dysfunction and injury, premature birth, autism, developmental delays, and life-changing illnesses. Children's Specialized has eight sites in New Jersey and treats over 17,500 children with special needs each year.

Holiday Dance for Adults with special needs : December 9th 2011

More than 200 individuals became dancing machines at the Stelton Community Center in Edison tonight. The occasion was holiday dance for individuals with special needs and their caregivers. Edison Visionary Lions Club sponsored this event with Edison recreation department to rain in joy in the lives of these individuals. Individuals with special needs have limited exposure to social life. Besides being fun, an inclusive caring environment builds their confidence. It builds balance, coordination and overall health and brings them as closer to normal life as possible. Their enthusiasm and zeal was unparallel. Many individuals came to the members and thanked them personally for arranging such a special night for them. 

 

Diwali Social : October 22nd 2011

EVLC continued its tradition to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Deepawali from last year.  The members of EVLC along with their families got together to enjoy an evening of fun games, traditional food , ethnic clothes and lots of fun. The cubs enjoyed crafts activities by decorating diwali cards for their families. It was a great occasion for the families to get acquainted with each other and promote attendance at other club events.

Walk to end Alzheimer : October9th 2011

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s™ is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. Since 1989, this all age, all-ability walk has mobilized millions to join the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, raising more than $347 million for the cause. Events are held annually in the fall in nearly 600 communities nationwide.

Members of EVLC walked as a team to raise awareness for the disease and participated in various events going on at the location like face painting and flower decoration. The club also made a donation for the Nobel cause.

 

9/11/11: A Day of Remembrance

On the 10th anniversary of 9/11 members of Edison Visionary Lions Club along with the leos and cubs volunteered to spend their time with veterans at the New Jersey Veterans’ Memorial Home, Melon Park. The members and cubs decorated backpacks and cup holders to be sent to children of deployed army personnel.  They also wrote loving and encouraging notes to these children letting them know how much their family is appreciated and valued. The afternoon was spent socializing with the veterans.

The day was concluded by visiting the Edison 9/11 memorial and remembering and honoring all those who lost their lives on the day which changed the nation and the world forever. The members placed flowers at the memorial to show their respect.

 

Serving Veterans in Lyons, NJ on 9/10

On 9/10 members of EVLC participated in a 1 hour ice cream social with veterans at VA New Jersey Health Care System, Lyons, NJ. The members served ice-cream to the veterans and socialized with them. The effort was highly appreciated by the veterans and they asked to arrange more socials like this.

 

Beach outing at Belmar Beach, NJ : August 20th 2011

EVLC organized a beach outing for its members and their families to enjoy a warm summer day. It was a great opportunity to get to know the new members who joined the club in year 2011. The informal setting and fun atmosphere also proved a great way to get warmed up to the new lions year and get the members motivated to participate in various club projects.
