PILL BOTTLE COLLECTION PROJECT

Last fall 2024 the Eau Claire Seymour Lions Club proudly participated in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, a community effort led by the Eau Claire County Health Department. The event sparked a unique initiative for our club to collect and repurpose orange prescription pill bottles on our own, addressing both environmental and global health needs.

The iconic orange bottles, typically made from plastic #5, are ideal for storing medications due to their durability and resistance to heat, however they are also notoriously challenging to recycle.  Worlds away, peoples of developing countries have no access to a simple pill bottle and receive their medications in their hands or on a piece of paper.

In true lionism, where there is a need, we serve.  Thanks to the Robert's Lions Club and full support of our District MD27-E2, the orange pill bottles we collect are packaged with other medical supplies and sent to underdeveloped countries around the world.

Our collection effort ensures we are caring for our environment by reducing waste and keeping these bottles out of our landfills while providing a simple yet critical resource to communities in need.

Orange pill bottles that have already been cleaned, labels removed and caps attached can be dropped at the LE Phillips Senior Center in Eau Claire.
