Columbus Junction Lions Club still continue to collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids. The donated glasses are sent on to the Iowa Chapter of VOSH (Volunteers in Optometric Service to Humanity). This is a group of Optometrists in Iowa who volunteer their time to deliver these glasses to underprivileged areas, such as Central America. They then examine and refract local residents who cannot afford the cost of new glasses. From the inventory taken with them, they match as closely as possible the prescription. The collected hearing aids are sent to an Iowa Lion who is Coordinator of the Iowa Lions Hearing Aid Bank. The aids are cleaned, and repaired. The Hearing Aid Bank provides hearing aids for those who have a need and find themselves in the position of not being able to meet that need financially. If you need assistance in obtaining hearing aids, please contact Lion Secretary Lamoyne Buser at 319-728-7731 for necessary application forms. Approximately 140 hearing aids are dispensed free of charge each year to qualifying Iowans.
If you, anyone in your family, or anyone you know have one of these hearing aids or eyeglasses that are no longer needed, please donate to one of our local Lions Club members.
