Clermont Lions Club Park

The Clermont Lions Club is part of the world’s largest service organization, Lions Club International. Women & Men from Clermont & surrounding areas are members who wish to help those in need, both near & far. There are more than 1.40 million Lions in 210 countries & geographical areas who work together to answer needs hat challenge communities around the world.

The Clermont Lions Club received it’s charter on March 24, 1945 and was sponsored by the Brownsburg Lions Club. The initial Charter membership included 66 members.

In 1947, the club purchased 27 acres of land to form the Clermont Lions Community Park, the members worked hard in the coming years to clear the ground, build a clubhouse(the current concession stand), and build an arena for horse shows, tractor pulls, and rodeos. The park was officially dedicated on July 11, 1949.

Many improvements have been made to the park though the years. The gravel entry road has been paved, along with the stone entry to the park was constructed. A new community building has been built and is available for rental to the public. There is playground for parents and their children. An outdoor shelter has provided enjoyment to many, along with a mile long walking path that has been used by many in the community. Every Day our Community is served by the Clermont Lions Club members.

What does the Clermont Lions Club do?

Since it’s Charter, the Clermont Lions Club has ben dedicated to helping others. The vision that the founding members had was one of “Service” . The decision of exactly how to serve was made when they decided to purchase the land for the park & leave a legacy to the Community.

The Clermont Lions Club is much more than a Fish Fry or a Rodeo. Throughout the years, these projects have funded many charities , and have helped thousands of needy people. Annually the club holds an Easter Egg Hunt, a Halloween Party with Hayrides and a Christmas Party. These are all free & open to the public. Also as a public service the club sponsors a Rabies Clinic so that the community can get their animals vaccinated & same them money.

Hellen Keller asked Lions to be “Knights of the Blind” in 1925. Our Club regularly donates to Leader Dog for the Blind in Rochester MI, so that the blind & visually impaired can become more independent. Leader Dog is absolutely free to all. The club also provides eye exams and eyeglasses free of charge to the needy. Members of the Clermont Lions Club help the Chapel Hill Lions do vision screening in all Wayne Township Schools. Eyeglasses, hearing aids, & cell phones are also collected and then sent all over the world to help others.

Clermont Loins support many Wayne Township School functions. We are especially fond of Robey Elementary, which holds a dear place in our hearts and is our neighbor to the southeast. Every year, third grade students at Robey, receive their own dictionary, courtesy of the Clermont Lions Club. Scholarships are given to Ben Davis High School Student and we ask for volunteers to sing the National Anthem at our annual Rodeo. Needy families from Robey are given assistance during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Other local charities we assist are Ronald McDonald house, Wayne Township Education Foundation, Beacon of Hope, West Side Pride Park, Restoring Lives West, & Girl Scouts . We Sponsor both Cub Scout Pack 124 and Boy Scout Troop 505 from right here in Clermont.

Indiana Lions State projects include: Leader Dog for the Blind, Cancer Control, Indiana Speech & Hearing, the Indiana School for the Blind & Visually impaired, &Indiana Lions Eye Bank. Other projects & committees are Eyeglass recycling, Camp Woodsmoke, Eyeglass missions to Mexico , & Diabetes Awareness. Our District Eyeglass Recycling program collects more than 250,000 pair of eyeglasses each year.
