Christchurch Host Lions Club
60+ Years of Service
Our Club has been proudly serving Christchurch since 1959. We are a service focused group of men and women, and our club is based in Papanui.
Our Charter President was W J Cowles, still remembered today by all those who use the Cowles Stadium in Wainoni.
We are one of over 45,000 Lions Clubs worldwide, in over 200 countries. our projects reflect Lions Clubs International global priorities of vision, diabetes awarenss, hunger, the environment, and child cancer.
We have contibuted to national organisations as well as seeking to assist locally. Projects ranged from the Garden City Golf Classic to fundraising at sausage sizzles.
You will see us out in our distinctive Lions Hi Viz jackets collecting aluminium tabs for Kidney Kids, old currency for the Heads up for Kids programme, selling our unique recipe Lions Christmas Cakes, and distributing Santa Claus Workshop wooden toys at Christmas.
You are welcome to join us- we meet for fellowship and a dinner meeting on the second and fourth tuesday of the month, at the Papanui RSA.
The President or the Secretary welcome enquiries. Just contact us!
Over the Years we have been involved in many interesting projects, but one of our most crazy was in 1966 - Lions against an ELEPHANT at tug a war
We would probably be in trouble for this today (We might have damaged the grass!). But we still know how to have some heavyweight fun!!
Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
