This page will be used to report on our fund-raising and welfare activities over the last year or so. However, our three largest projects, the Bob Cook Games, The Carol Float and The Cherished Car and Family Fun Day have separate pages set aside for them.

The Chippenham Half Marathon

The Lions were at The Chippenham Half Marathon to provide refreshments - cakes, tea & coffee, and (for the first time) bacon baps.

Cheque Presentation to Dorothy House

This year Chippenham Lions held their Easter Egg Raffle in support of Dorothy House.  42 large chocolate eggs in woven display baskets were placed in various venues around Chippenham and tickets were sold for £1.  From the money raised we were able to donate £2,000 to Dorothy House and a small group of us were pleased to go along to Winsley to meet fundraisers and care staff to pass over our donation.

Cheque Presentation to Wiltshire Air Ambulance

At the end of February, Chippenham Lions held an Auction of Promises in support of Wiltshire Air Ambulance and other Lions Charities at the Town Hall.  The event was well supported with 100 ‘promises’ and we were able to raise over £5,000 in the course of the evening.

Recently, a number of Lions club members made the trip to Semington to the Charitable Trust’s headquarters to present them with their cheque for £5,000.  Here we see club members in red with from left to right Jeff Daws (auction organiser), Sue Gilbert (Club President), Jim Dutch (Auctioneer for the evening) and Derek Angell (Chair of Fundraising).  The two Air Ambulance personnel receiving the cheque are Fred Thompson (Specialist Paramedic) and Bob Bacus (Pilot).

Our Exchange Trip

On the first weekend in May a group of our members travelled to Normandy to enjoy our annual social exchange with the Lions Club of Durtal La Flèche.

Our Auction of Promises

We held our Aution of Promises on Friday 29 March 2019 at the Town Hall and were pleased to have offered 100 Lots over the course of 2 hours.  Figures are still to be finalised, but we expect to have raised over £5,300 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Lions Charities.

Chippenham Lions would like to thank:

Persimmon whose generous donation allowed us to cover all expenses and more for this event.

Chippenham Town Council for awarding Chippenham Lions monies from the Community Award Budget to has cover the cost of the hall hire.

The individuals, families, businesses and companies who generously donated the splendid selection of Lots.

And to all those who submitted commission bids, appeared at the auction and bid so generously.

The club is proud to have collected £1,393 on behalf of the Marie Curie, Great Daffodil Appeal at Morrisons Super Store over two days in March 2019.

Christmas With The Lions

As usual we had a very busy and rewarding Christmas with our Carol Float campaign and Mulled Wine sales for 2018 and you can find more information on about these activities on our dedicated page.

The Christmas Carol Collection at Sainsburys

The buckets were rattling at Sainsburys on the run up to Christmas 2018 and we thank all the many shoppers who contributed to our collection.  If you want to see how we spend your donations then go to our Community Service page from the menu on the left.

Presentation to GWH Swindon

On 8 November 2018 we went to the GWH, Swindon to make a presentation to their fundraising team 'Brighter Futures' for the new Radiography Treatment Centre. In fact this was our contribution to a Zone Project in which three local clubs - Chippenham, Highworth and Devizes got together to donate a total of just over £10,000. Prior to that three other local clubs have also donated £6,800.

The Zone Project was initiated by Chippenham Club Member Brian Hearn who had a brain tumour and had had to go the much greater distance to Oxford for his treatment. However, sadly, Brian died before he was able to see the result of his fundraising initiative and the picture below shows his widow Barbara presenting Chippenham's cheque for £2,000. A fitting memorial to Brian.
