Lionism

A businessman named Melvin Jones founded the International Association of Lions Clubs in Chicago on June 7, 1917.  He consolidated several local independent clubs into Lions. Today Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with over 1,400,000 members, in over 41,000 clubs that are in 178 countries and geographic areas.

The purpose of a Lions Club is to determine community needs and develop means of meeting them, either through its own efforts or in cooperation with other agencies.

The Carmel Host Lions Club was chartered on October 22, 1942. The club meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays each month at 11:45am, at Lugano Swiss Bistro in the Barnyard for lunch, a program and business.  Each month the club invites guest speakers from the community to address topics of local interest.
