Blair Lions Club Celebrates a Successful Year
The Blair Lions Club recently held their annual picnic at Lions Park, celebrating the previous years' achievements and transferring leadership for the new year.
Outgoing President Lion Austin Kubie was presented an award for his leadership as president, as well as a Melvin Jones award for his service to the club and community. The Melvin Jones Fellowship for Dedicated Humanitarian Services award is voted on by current members, is the highest form of recognition and embodies humanitarian ideas consistent with the nature and purpose of Lionism.
During the gathering, the club celebrated the success of their two major fundraisers - the annual Flight-4-Sight golf tournament and the Bob Krogh Memorial Peach and Pear Fundraiser. The group also donated club funds throughout the year to various community organizations and needs, including park shelters, sponsorship of Boy Scouts Troop #143, eye exams and glasses for students in Blair Community Schools and scholarships.
The Lions Club welcomes visitors and new members of all ages and gender who are interested in serving their community. The motto of the service organization is “We Serve” and missions include ridding the world of preventable blindness, hearing loss and diabetes.
