Mission Statement:

Lions Clubs International's mission is to empower Lions clubs, volunteers, and partners to improve health and well-being, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian services and grants.

Founding:

The Alachua Lions Club was established in 1931 and is part of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service club organization. As of recent data, Lions Clubs International comprises over 1.4 million members across more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Service:

For over seven decades, we have sponsored Alachua Scouting, including Scout Troop 88, which celebrated 10 Scouts achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 2011, each receiving a $100 Savings Bond. We also sponsor Literacy Nights at the Alachua Library and organize annual White Cane Walks to raise awareness about the White Cane Law. To support education, we provide $1,000 scholarships to Alachua High School seniors and contribute $500 annually to the local FFA club.

In our commitment to health services, we offer eye exams, glasses, and hearing aids to individuals in need. Our members volunteer as tutors for the local Partners in Education program, and we support various eye and hearing organizations. Additionally, we back over 10 organizations that provide guide and hearing dogs, as well as other assistance to sight- and hearing-impaired individuals.

Activities:

Our fundraising and community service activities include hosting the Cattleman’s Banquet, a tradition spanning more than 84 years and recognized as the oldest continuous Lions fundraiser in Florida. We conduct diabetes screenings at both the Alachua Spring and Fall Festivals and organize an annual White Cane Law Awareness Walk. The Lions also participate in Alachua's Christmas parade and Christmas drawing, fostering community spirit during the holiday season.

Fundraising:

The Alachua Lions Club is entirely self-supporting; none of the funds raised at our events benefit the club itself. We take great pride in ensuring that 100% of the monies raised from the public are returned to the community. Club expenses are covered through member dues and personal contributions, allowing all public donations to directly support our service initiatives.

Through these efforts, we strive to serve the needs of our community, combat blindness, hearing loss, and diabetes, and help our youth develop into productive adults.

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
