Wrexham Maelor Lions are involved in numerous projects throughout the year, some involve helping those who are close to home, and others involve enhancing the lives of those in countries where either war or extreme poverty has deprived people of basic necessities.

Just a few of our on-going projects include:

Education:  Providing all the requirements for the education of a young lady in Lesotho.

Hospital Packs:  If you are rushed into Hospital, or even for a patient whose situation involves an unexpected overnight stay, it is often difficult to get hold of the basic necessities which make life easier.  Wrexham Maelor Lions provide Hospital packs; containing simple toiletries enclosed in a clear plastic wallet for the local hospital. The pack consists of basic personal hygiene necessities such as toothbrush and toothpaste, shower gel, soap, razor and shaving cream, comb and paper towel.  There has been excellent feedback, each pack is accompanied by an informative leaflet of who Lions are, inviting anyone interested in joining by giving them details of how to contact a member of Wrexham Maelor Lions.

Annual Santa Flight:  organised by ChildFlight.  We support the organising charity with a monetary donation.  Every December the day starts early with the Mayor of Wrexham meeting the children at Gresford Colliery Social Club.  We then proceed by Coach (kindly provided by George Edwards) to Manchester Airport where the fun begins with a pre-flight party in the Atlantic Suite before the youngsters climb on board the aircraft and take to the skies in search of Father Christmas

After a flight around the North West, they visit Santa’s grotto to receive an early Christmas present, a selection box and a generous goodie bag.

Peace Poster:  An Annual Art Contest for Children. Each year, Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than eight million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest.

The theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster Contest is "Our World, Our Future." Students, ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate.  Please contact us for further information.

Message in a Wallet:  Provides the Emergency Services with vital information of any illness or allergy you may have. Also contact names if they are called out to an emergency involving you.  All contained in a see-through plastic folder to keep inside your wallet or handbag. Ideal for use by anyone who may feel vulnerable whilst away from home.  To date Wrexham Maelor Lions Club have distributed more than 25,000 of these wallets in Wrexham Maelor and District.  The service is TOTALLY FREE OF CHARGE.

Message in a Bottle:  A simple idea that encourages people to keep their basic personal and medical details in a common place where they can easily be found in an emergency.  The information is kept in a bottle which itself is kept in the fridge where the emergency services will expect to find it in the event of being called to your home.  They will know you have a bottle by two labels. One is fixed on the inside of the front door of the main entrance to your home, and the other to your fridge door. The scheme is FREE; all costs have been paid for by the Lions Club.
