WHITE CANE DAYS
The Wildwood Lions invite the community to help fight blindness at their 18th annual White Cane Days celebration. On Saturday, June 4 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. the Lions will be at Sam’s Club in White Bear Lake and then on Saturday, June 11 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Festival Foods in White Bear Lake distributing miniature white cane stickers to the public in exchange for donations. Lions will also accept used eyeglasses and used hearing aids from people who wish to donate at this event. This annual fundraising effort is called White Cane Days.
Funds raised from White Cane Days are dedicated to sight-related projects. In Minnesota, usually at least half of the money collected is used to strengthen existing Minnesota Lions sight programs: the Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, the Minnesota Lions Macular Degeneration Research and Rehabilitation Center, the Lions Children’s Eye Clinic and ophthalmology research at the University of Minnesota. The other portion of White Cane Days proceeds is used in the local community and elsewhere for projects and services, such as Leader Dogs for the Blind, Inc., diabetic retinopathy research, eyeglasses for children & adults in need, transition assistance for newly blinded individuals in our community, Lions worldwide program to end preventable blindness, as well as others related to the Lions sight mission.
The next PunkinMania event, sponsored jointly be the Wildwood Lions Club and Kramer-Berg American Legion Post 507, is schelduled for Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Triangle Park in Mahtomedi.
Which pumkin do I want. They are ALL SOOOOOOO BIG! This 2013 picture appeared in the Lions Clubs International LION Magazine, October 2014 issue.
The four wagons of pumpkins are ready to go for last year's PunkinMania.
