Meetings

Sight/Speech and Hearing Committee- Adults and children, through an application process, are provided FREE or cost-share eye exams and glasses. Children throughout the county are screened for visual deficits and referral to an optometrist. Screenings take place at local schools, Head Start and local events and are completed by trained Lions Club members. County residents may also, through an application process, receive FREE or reduced fee hearing aids.

Recycle for Sight- Used eye glasses and hearing aids are collected at locations around the county and recycled.

Adopt-A-Highway- Twice-a-year, members pick up trash along the adopted stretch of highway in keeping Route 14 State Highway free from litter in the road side area between Watkins Glen and Montour Falls, NY.

Lions Camp Badger Drake House- The club maintains this cabin in memory of founding member and Past President Calvin Drake. Lions Camp Badger is a residential camp serving children, youth and young adults aged 6-21. 

Scholarships- Monetary recognition awarded to selected graduating seniors from local high schools. Awardees are chosen from an in-depth application process. Schloarship funds are released upon submission of documentation reflecting successful completion of first semester of college.

Schuyler Hospital Pasta Dinner- Lions Club members greet, serve and clean up to support the hospital auxiliary. Funds are raised for the Hospital Auxiliary by serving pasta dinner to over 300 people. The Funds are used for scholarships provided by the Auxiliary to individuals pursuing a course of study in the health care field.

Christmas Trees sales- This is a major fundraiser for the club. Sales are held at Lakes Gas in Watkins Glen, NY and begin the Saturday after Thanksgiving and go until Christmas or until all trees are sold, if sooner.

Seneca 7- This is a fundraiser for the club. The Seneca 7 is a relay race with teams of 7 members each and spans 77.7 miles around Seneca lake. This includes runners and bicyclists. Lions members assist with the event by providing direction at one of the designated exchange points, Clute Park in Watkins Glen, NY.

Salute to Veterans- This event started in November 2016 to promote the recognition of and thanks to the many Vietnam War era veterans. The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration was authorized by Congress, established under the Secretary of Defense, and lauched by President Obama. By presidential proclamation, this Commemoration extends through Veterans Day 2025. The Watkins-Montour Lions Club will host this event again in November 2017.
